I have called Tucson home since my husband and I started our family here in 1986. Unfortunately, we have not been able to live here consistently, but when we were able to finally return to Tucson, I decided that I would change my career again to provide help for people that need it by focusing on them.
I graduated high school in 1971 and immediately went to work in a doctor's office as a receptionist as I worked my way through school while I attended college at night. I advanced within the medical community until I was managing offices and their staff and performing medical tests that interns were providing at Stanford. But I never really felt complete and I became bored.
I continued to change jobs and professions, becoming accomplished in most everything I did. I would stay a few years and be offered something else, so I would switch. I even worked for a large telecommunications firm in their accounting and payroll department. Nothing seemed to satisfy my needs. I thought I hated the fact that I had not put my college education in Art and Business to work for me but little did I know! I volunteered for any committee or position that I felt I could help including Advisory Boards with the Tucson Transportation Dept., PPO positions for schools my son attended and teaching positions in our Church's elementary education. My son and I volunteered with the Special Olympics Program for the Round Rock School District in Texas for 3 years before we moved back to Tucson. My son was nominated for and won, High School Volunteer of the Year there as he did not attend the public school system there but attended a small charter school but we volunteered in a public school district. I, eventually, was put to work almost full time as a teacher at a small charter school.
When I returned to Tucson with my husband and son in 2004 where my son entered the University of Arizona's Honors College, I decided to go into Real Estate. At 17 years old, my son was well on his way to a successful career and I was not happy with some of the situations that had occurred while we were trying to purchase a home in Tucson. I, honestly, thought I could do a more thorough and caring job than the agents we had personally encountered during our move. We purchased a home from one of those do-it-yourself Real Estate Companies and luckily, in a way, our agent went to the home prior to close of escrow and got completely sick and disoriented. She called us and told us that she could not recommend that we finalize the sale. Something was wrong inside that house. We later found out that the home had been a Methamphetamine Lab and the disclosure documents were typed up by the Seller who chose to not use the State mandated disclosure forms and they did not disclose this information. I spoke to a DEA Agent and was told that my family would have been dead, within the year if we had followed through and bought the home. I got angry and decided to help put a stop to the unethical sales of homes by making myself availble to clients. So as my son started the University of Arizona, I started my new profession in Real Estate.
I have built my career around creativity, determination, ethics and personality rather than use the position to further my own personal agendas. I have many clients that have voiced their appreciation for my never pushing my personal listings in the face of their needs and desires. I have brought clients to new mortgage agents when I felt that their mortgage agents would be getting them in over their head as many have done in this current market. One mortgage agent had even done the old bait and switch of interest rates on them and I told them that I would not tolerate that even if it meant me not closing a transaction and as a matter of fact, we did not. I have even encouraged clients to not follow through on the finalization of offers because I could tell that my client wasn't as happy as I felt they should be. I really want my clients to be happy with their choice!
As an agent, I check listings every day, not because I have to, but because I have found myself driven to explore properties even during my free time. I set clients up on an automatic update with our Tucson MLS for the criteria they have given me to work with.
Tucson and Real Estate are two of my biggest loves other than my family. I am confident in all aspects of the market and my clients voice their respect for me and the job I have done for them. Most recently, I got an email from a client that is a first time home buyer. She expressed her gratitude because she had tried to purchase a home with another agent and at the very end, her loan did not go through. I, instead, brought her to a mortgage agent I trust fully, had her help her clear up her credit problems and we helped her get grant money for a down payment and found her the most beautiful home for her growing family. Now, she has me looking for a home for her sister and husband.
